How To Simplify Your Wellness Business
As your business grows you’ll likely add more tech, more people and more complications to your business. But it doesn’t need to be this way. Simplifying your business can lower your costs, lower your stress and mean you are spending less time managing all the things. In this blog post we look at some areas that can be simplified and how to do it.
Processes
Although you might be tempted to start with areas that can save you money, starting with your processes or standard operating procedures is the best way to get an idea of where things should be simplified. By mapping out your processes you’ll easily see where you created complications and avoid repetition.
Tech stack
Your tech stack is one area that become overly complicated over time. You’ll want to map out the tech you are using, and list what you are using it for. This will give you an idea if you are using the best technology for the task. But sometimes the choices are not obvious.
For example moving to an an all in one platform may seem like it will simplify your business. But limitations with some of these platforms can mean that you need to add pieces of tech to compensate for limitations. If money is your motivation for simplication, then take a close look at the costs. You may find that an all in one platform costs more than the software it replaces.
Having said that, if you are using an all in one platform or a multi use piece of software, consider if it can replace anything else in your business. An example of this might be moving courses to Thrivecart if you are already using Thrivecart for a checkout. Or it could mean using your course platform for checkout instead of adding Thrivecart. I use my client management software for appointment scheduling and time tracking. It might not be the best at both of these, but it makes my business simpler.
When choosing tech, I don’t believe you should choose the most powerful option because you think you might need it in the future. Many people choose ActiveCampaign for email marketing because they’ve been told how powerful it is. But they get bogged down by the complexity or end up using few of the features that makes it stand out.
I initially chose ActiveCampaign, but switched to Kit which is not quite as powerful, but is much simpler to set up and to maintain.
Task management
Keeping track of tasks needed in various areas of your business can help to simplify things. If you have a simple way of looking at what you need to do everyday, you’ll be able to spend more time doing and less time managing.
Choosing a task management tool is critical. You may wish to use pen and paper, but this doesn’t work well for recurring tasks and can make planning time consuming. On the other hand, you’ll want to make sure that the tool isn’t too complicated for what you need. That can increase your resistance to using the tool.
Team
Growing a team may seem inevitable if you want your business to grow. But hiring people whether employees or contractors adds complications to your business. Hiring can inevitably lead to more hiring, more costs and more complexity. Growing your team means that your processes need to be tight, your tech stack needs to be robust, and tasks need to be managed for multiple people.
I provided several tips for hiring in this blog post, but the key is to proceed slowly and carefully to avoid too many complications in your business. And before hiring someone new, make sure that you don’t already have someone on your team that can do the job, maybe with a little training.
Marketing
Marketing can quickly become one of the most complicated areas of your business. Start by reviewing what you are doing now, what is working, and what is not. Try to start by focusing on one or two main areas. If you’re focused on social media, use a scheduler.
